課程概述

The 18-week English course emphasises conversation skills, and students are given opportunities to use English during in-class discussion sessions. The training of English reading is combined with oral practice. Students may think the reading texts are relatively easier than what they have read in high school, in terms of sentence patterns and vocabulary use. However, the material for the reading text we use is always chosen for its clarity and because it can arouse student opinions. The reading comprehension is checked via speaking. The writing part is done through doing three writing assignments throughout the term. There will also be group projects and group work.

課程目標
This course aims to enhance students’ English proficiency at the high-intermediate level through diverse and integrated class activities. Students will be introduced to various topics that are relevant, engaging, and helpful to college life. In addition to social and cultural issues, topics on Academic and professional English (English for Science, Technology, or Business) will be discussed. Additionally, students will be trained how to utilize on-line sources such as on-line dictionary, on-line corpora, and various language learning websites to sharpen English language skills.
